How Deep The Father's Love For Us

(video below)

How Deep The Father's Love For Us
Stuart Townend

How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure,
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away,
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon a cross.
My sin upon His shoulders;
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished;
His dying breath has brought me life -
I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything,
No gifts, no power, no wisdom;
But I will boast in Jesus Christ,
His death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer.
But this I know with all my heart,
His wounds have paid my ransom.

Isaiah 53:3-7 (New American Standard Bible)

  1. He was despised and forsaken of men,
  2. A man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
    And like one from whom men hide their face
    He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.
  3. Surely our griefs He Himself bore,
  4. And our sorrows He carried;
    Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken,
    Smitten of God, and afflicted.
  5. But He was pierced through for our transgressions,
  6. He was crushed for our iniquities;
    The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him,
    And by His scourging we are healed.
  7. All of us like sheep have gone astray,
  8. Each of us has turned to his own way;
    But the LORD has caused the iniquity of us all
    To fall on Him.
  9. He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
  10. Yet He did not open His mouth;
    Like a lamb that is led to slaughter,
    And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers,
    So He did not open His mouth.
