Bibles

The Expositor's Study Bible

The Expositor's Study Bible is the New King James Version with intermingled easy to understand explanatory notes. The actual Scripture text is in black, and Jimmy Swaggart's commentary notes are in red, making it very easy to read. I have a page of sample text from Romans chapter 7 here.

Mp3NASB.com

The NASB is widely recognized as the most accurate English translation of the Bible. For several years, audio recordings of the NASB have been available on CD. Now the NASB is available as downloadable MP3 files. A sample recording is available at Mp3NASB.com.

Personal Value

Being created in His image, our worth comes only from God, not from self.

The Search for Significance

by Robert S. McGee
"The author shows readers how to find true self-worth, based on the love, acceptance and forgiveness of Christ, and how to get off the performance treadmill. "

Abba's Child: The Cry of the Heart for Intimate Belonging

by Brennan Manning
"The liberating message of this book is that God longs for us to know in the depths of our being that He loves and accepts us as we are. God is our 'Abba,' our loving Father, who knows us far better than we know ourselves."

Intimacy

by Henri Nouwen
"'How can I find a creative and fulfilling intimacy in my relationship with God and my fellow human beings?' Nouwen's answers to this question describe the connections among friendship, romantic love, sexuality, prayer, and mental health."

The Inner Voice of Love

by Henri Nouwen
"Your body needs to be held and to hold, to be touched and to touch. None of these needs is to be despised, denied, or repressed. But you have to keep searching for your body's deeper need, the need for genuine love."

Putting Your Past Behind You:
Finding Hope for Life's Deepest Hurts

by Erwin Lutzer
"Is there a place to begin again? No one can go back to the starting line in the race of life. What's done, is done. But we are not tied to our past mistakes."
I recommend this book not only in relation to what others have done, but we have things of our own that need to be put behind us.

The Road Less Traveled

by M. Scott Peck
"The author explores the very nature of loving relationships and leads us toward a new serenity and fullness of life. It helps us learn how to distinguish dependency from love; and ultimately how to become one's own true self."

Christian Living

In His Steps

by Charles L. Sheldon, Charles Monroe Sheldon
"Regardless of what others might do, the author appeals to Christians to follow in Christ's steps. In all of life's situations, when torn between faith and the demands, compulsions, and temptations of life, Sheldon asks: 'What Would Jesus Do?'"

Life of The Beloved: Spiritual Living in a Secular World

by Henri Nouwen
"How can we blend service and spiritual worship in the everyday world? How can we, imperfect and each broken in our own way, feel beloved by the Almighty? In an open letter to a troubled friend, Nouwen ponders our place in the world."
