Same Gender Attractions (SGA) and God
|
"I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, [nothing] will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Romans 8:38-39 (NASB)

Regarding Same Gender Attractions and God, I believe:
That same gender attractions are not chosen.
That acting out same gender sexual behavior is not always a choice of the human will. (Romans 7:22-23)
That homosexuality is not genetic per se, but there exist other "at-birth" predispositions, that combined with unmet same gender emotional needs, may lead to a tendency toward same gender emotional and sexual attraction.
That God's law is Love.
That anything that is not done in Love is sin.
That what is done in Love is not sin. See: The Law of Love
That God understands our needs and desires, that He knows that we still search for those needs to be fulfilled, and that God's love for us continues to remain constant. He does not condemn us for our same gender attractions (Romans 8:1).
That there is nothing we can do to earn God's love; and that there is nothing, including same gender sexual activity, that will make God stop loving us.
That by nature we all attempt to live in the flesh independently from God.
That same gender attractions are but one of many manifestations of our sin nature.
That through constant submission to God by His Holy Spirit, with our focus on Christ and what He accomplished on our behalf through His Finished work on the Cross, we can have victory over the flesh.
That my flesh is weak, but "I can do all things through Him [Christ] who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13)
That I had looked to members of my same gender to complete me, but it is only Christ who can complete me.
That God is sovereign and can do anything He chooses to do, including changing someone's sexual orientation.
That in His sovereignty, God will not do anything He chooses not to do.
That when God does anything, it will be according to His timetable, not that of ourselves or any other person.
That the underlying same gender attraction may never be changed.
That when individuals either desire, or are open to change, in any area of their lives, including an attraction to members of their same gender, God in His sovereignty may choose to not change us in order that we will remain fully dependent on Him and His grace. See Paul's "thorn in the flesh" (2 Corinthians 12:7-9).
That "… God sees not as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart." (1 Samuel 16:7)
That it is meaningless for the mainstream church to say, "we hate sin, but love sinners" and yet refuse to show that love by their actions. That boycotts, name-calling and the like drive us further away from God rather than drawing us to Him.
That the mainstream church would better serve God's purpose by befriending homosexual individuals, teaching God's unconditional love and showing that love by example, without regard to whether or not the individual's activities conform to any particular outward list of rules.
That, with or without God, a constant supply of real non-sexual love and acceptance, primarily from members of the same gender, often can satisfy the emotional needs, thereby assuaging the sexual desires. Wouldn't it be best if that love came from the family of God?

That so-called "ex-gay"/reparative therapy groups often do more harm than good.
They errantly place blame for same gender attractions on families-of-origin, often causing those relationships to be damaged or completely broken.
Their approach is Pharisaically law and "works" based with little or no mention of Grace through Faith in Christ and what He accomplished on our behalf through His Finished work on the Cross.
They give false hope with a promise of change but while some may marry or live celibate lives, they privately admit that their own orientation has not changed.
I have yet to meet one person who professes change in orientation, including several leaders, with whom I have spoken personally, at the highest levels of the nationally known "Ex-Gay" organizations and other national "ministries".
The methods are so flawed that many become more depressed when those methods fail to produce any positive result.
Many are sent for psychological therapy and/or psychiatric doctors and given prescriptions for medication.
After change did not come, some are asked to leave the group, and some, including myself, have been suicidal as a result of loosing hope after being rejected from what they thought was their last best hope.
However, I have found the Answer and that Answer does not inflict ANY harm. It does not require ANY human ability or interpersonal connection, no twelve-step program or self-help, no forty days of purpose and no accountability partner. What is required is for each of us to place our full faith in Christ and His Finished work on the Cross of Calvary, which gives the Holy Spirit free reign to work in our lives!!!

One manifestation of the sin nature in me is an attraction to members of my same gender. What manifestations of the sin nature are revealed in you? Are they keeping you from an intimate relationship with God? He will give you victory too, if you will seek Him with all of your heart.
